The machines that go Ping!

This is why I like working with mental health patients.

In mental health, or psychiatric nursing, there are no machines that go ping. Just you and the patients. Agreeing on what to do to let them become what they want to be. It is empowering others through the use of kindness.

Can't believe this job will soon be mine.

Thanks for all your kind words!

And now, some photos from a real birth, that being the wee Mac.

I had an epidural that only numbed my right knee.

Loved every minute of it.

The wee Mac about 10 seconds old.

The wee mac about 20 minutes old. And no, those aren't sheet prints, just marks from exiting the birth canal. And they had yet to clean him!

And this is him, age 1 day, after a satisfying nursing session. He nursed every two hours for the first four months of his life.

I gotta stop now, my ovaries are starting to twitch. And didn't I start this post about my job?

So easily the mind wanders . . .

Ahh, beware the twitchy ovaries... I would already have so many kids I'd be living on a commune somewhere...
I love his little face, though.

I don't plan on working around pinging machines either. My soft spot is for intellectually disabled people. (ID replaced MR)I love volunteeing for Special Olympics. I worked a year fo a company that has about 30 houses all over the county in which 3 residents & 1 support person reside. It is still my most fufilling favorite job ever.

THAT'S IT!!!!!

THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is getting very very strange.

My first job in health care (at age 17) was a 'personal care worker--PCW'. Basically a PCW is live in housekeeper, cook, medication giver and all around people helper to ID residents(or developmentally disabled as we call them up here in the north country).

So basically, every other weekend I would stay with six ID (or DD) women in their house and help them be live independently. Other PCW's took different shifts during the week.

I loved that job more than any other.

Well, any other besides working with the mentally ill.

But same type of thing.

Basically the job is to help people self-actualize.

Are you my long lost twin or something?

Didn't something like this happen to Hayley Mills in the Parent Trap?

Oh, it all makes sense now, THAT'S why my parents wouldn't let me go to camp...
